We are seeking a skilled and innovative Senior Technician in Electrical Engineering to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in supporting our cutting-edge research, teaching activities, and the development of prototypes for a wide range of projects. You will work closely with academic staff, researchers, and students to deliver technical solutions and ensure our facilities are at the forefront of engineering innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Support the electrical engineering laboratory provisions of the School

Provide hands-on support for practical sessions in electrical and electronic engineering, including electrical machines power systems equipment, circuit building and testing.

Collaborate with academic staff and students to design, build, and test functional prototypes for research and teaching projects.

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical engineering equipment.

Ensure the safe operation of all equipment in compliance with health and safety standards.

Oversee the day-to-day operation of laboratories, including maintaining an inventory of equipment, tools, and consumables.

Provide training and supervision for students and staff in the use of laboratory equipment and prototyping tools.

Work with internal and external stakeholders on collaborative projects, particularly those involving prototype development.

Continuously improve lab processes, contribute to funding proposals, and support the delivery of innovative research outputs.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be an experienced technician with a strong background in electrical engineering. You should have excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Essential Criteria:

HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering or a related field.

Extensive experience in power electronics, electrical drives and networks.

Practical experience with electrical engineering hardware equipment including transformers, DC machines. AC machines and 3-phase machines amongst others.

Proficiency in using Electrical and Electronic software tools.

Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in an engineering context.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in teaching or training others in a technical environment.

Knowledge of renewable energy systems, robotics, or embedded systems.

Experience in managing laboratory facilities.

Experience with Electric Vehicles

This is a full time, permanent position with a starting salary of £38,613 per annum.
