We are seeking an organised, proactive and digitally creative Project Manager to join Mapping Futures 2: Reframing Environmental Science Pathways in Further Education, a NERC-funded project exploring how environmental science can become more accessible to young people from underrepresented backgrounds. Working with Further Education colleges, community organisations and researchers, the project combines creative workshops and residential fieldwork to support more inclusive pathways into environmental science education and careers.

The postholder will coordinate the day-to-day administration and organisation of the project, working closely with the Project Lead, Postdoctoral Researcher and external partners to ensure activities are delivered effectively and on schedule. A key responsibility will be developing and managing the project's social media presence, including promoting project activities, communicating research and project outcomes, and building engagement with young people, partners and wider audiences. Other responsibilities include coordinating meetings and project communications, monitoring milestones, maintaining project records, supporting financial and funder reporting and organising workshops, residential fieldwork and dissemination events.

The Person

We are looking for an organised and proactive professional with a degree or equivalent relevant experience in project management, research administration, higher education administration or a related field.

A key requirement is the ability to take responsibility for the project's social media presence, including planning, scheduling and publishing engaging content, maintaining regular communication with followers, and promoting project activities, progress and outcomes. You will be confident using social media platforms to engage diverse audiences and helping to produce accessible, informative and visually engaging content. You will also have strong organisational, communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, organise meetings and events, maintain accurate records and support project reporting. You will be comfortable working collaboratively with academic colleagues, education providers and community organisations, and have an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and data protection. Experience of externally funded projects, Further Education, widening participation or community engagement would be an advantage.

The Faculty

There are few faculties across the UK university landscape as varied in their scope as the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment (ECE). We teach and research across a wide range of subjects, allowing for real cross-discipline innovation and creativity.  Our lecturers are experts – working at the forefront of their fields and actively engaged in research so they can bring advanced knowledge to their teaching.

The postholder will be part of an interdisciplinary project team working across environmental science, education, creative practice and inclusion.

Further information

This is a part time, fixed term position for 2 years, working 15 hours per week.

The starting salary is £16,296 per annum (pro rata to £40,195 per annum).

Interviews are expected to be held in November 2026.
