This is a career-defining opportunity at the heart of a small team of dedicated, experienced and energetic teachers and practitioners who inspire their students and help them to achieve successful careers in publishing and the creative industries. You’ll join a varied programme of practice- and research-led teaching that seeks to bring professional practice into the classroom underscored by academic research at the leading edge.

You will plan, deliver and assess a postgraduate module covering how books are marketed and publicised, global sales and distribution of published products and the international trade in intellectual property, using a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a lively education to your students that can be translated into real-world skills. Expertise in marketing theory and experience of creating marketing assets are highly desirable.

You will support students in selecting suitable topics for dissertation and prepare them for this substantial piece of independent work through lectures and hands-on workshops. Experience of academic writing at masters level or beyond would be beneficial.

The Person

You will be an experienced publishing professional with a proven record of recent employment in a commercial publishing environment. You will be up to date with changes in publishing and will be interested in preparing graduates for working in this fast-evolving industry. You’ll share knowledge and expertise of professional practice to enhance the employability of our students. Experience of teaching is preferred but not essential.

On a personal level, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your experience of working in publishing to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting practical publishing skills and knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

The Faculty

The School of Creative and Cultural Industries has a broad reach with departments focused on both cutting-edge industry practices and more traditional academic disciplines. Activities are underpinned and supported by a rich, varied and well-established research culture, particularly in areas such as Design History, Creative Writing and the Humanities more generally. A number of partnerships with industry, museums and the third sector enrich the learning experience of our students.

Comprising the Department of: Creative Industries; Critical and Historical Studies; Foundation Studies; Journalism, Publishing and Media and Humanities the school provides a student experience that prepares its graduates for further study and/or a fulfilling career at the forefront of the Creative and Cultural Industries.
