This is an exciting opportunity to join the vibrant and highly respected Fashion Department, a creative home to BA Fashion Promotion and Communication, BA Fashion, MA Fashion and MA Sustainable Fashion: Business and Practices, and a thriving postgraduate research community. You'll be part of a dynamic and ambitious team of students and staff, contributing to a culture of learning, teaching, and critical making at the forefront of the discipline. We are looking for a Lecturer to teach students on our nationally recognised undergraduate BA Fashion Promotion and Communication programme with emphasis on graphic design and digital technologies for fashion communication.  This entails a strong focus on Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and related tools, alongside digital and interactive applications in fashion contexts, which could include, Immersive storytelling and experience design, motion graphics and time-based media for fashion, web-based and platform-led fashion content and AR/VR applications for fashion communication and retail. The successful candidate will be highly organised and proactive, with excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively both within a team environment and with external stakeholders. They will deliver engaging teaching through workshops, tutorials, study tours, reviews and assessments and guide students in producing industry-ready digital portfolios, brand assets, and immersive outcomes.  

 

We seek candidates with a passion for design education and knowledge sharing, who can positively inspire and motivate students as they engage with their creative journey. The ideal candidate will have some experience in delivering active learning methodologies that encourage student participation, collaboration and hands-on experimentation. 

The successful candidate will also take on pastoral responsibilities, supporting students from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds as they transition into higher education. A commitment to equitable, student-centred learning and an enthusiasm for curriculum development are essential. You will play an active role in shaping how students develop their understanding and approach to fashion promotion and communication, ensuring they evolve capabilities in both creative confidence and technical competency. 

The Person

We're looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual with a passion for visual communication across a variety of platforms and a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. You will hold an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design/ Visual communication preferably with touchpoints to fashion, or a related subject; a Higher Degree or Research Degree is desirable. 

You will bring expertise in creative and technical skills that support visual communication for print and digital as well as content creation and immersive tools that inform web-based activities and approaches to communicating fashion. An enthusiastic, forward-thinking approach to creative practice and student engagement is essential. 

We are seeking someone keen to establish a profile in research, knowledge exchange, or higher education pedagogy. You should have experience of working in industry and in delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, feedback, and academic support to a diverse student body in higher education. 

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with the ability to contribute meaningfully to interdisciplinary teams and a wider academic community. 

Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they meet the Kingston University standards in learning and teaching, and research.  By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained). For those new to teaching, this will be through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching and for those experienced in teaching, through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.

This is a permanent, full time 1.0 FTE (37 hours per week) position, with an expected starting salary of £45,025.
