The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences is planning the launch of a number of new online courses, and this role provides an exciting opportunity to be involved in their online development and implementation, focusing on the Canvas Virtual Learning Environment, and will include building capacity for online courses in the faculty by upskilling staff.

While the post will be dedicated to the faculty’s online initiatives, it will be located and managed in the central Technology Enhanced Learning Team, part of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre, Academic Services directorate. This will ensure that the post holder will be fully supported as part of a team that supports technology enhanced learning and online course development across the institution. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking academic content and developing and implementing effective online learning designs, inclusive and accessible content resources and activities, while building on institutional models and templates designed to support online learning.
  • Designing and delivering support resources and workshops for academic staff in the faculty to help build capacity in the delivery of fully online courses.

The Person

The successful candidate will be passionate about online learning and using technologies to enhance learning and teaching. They will have a BA/BSc, and preferably a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (e.g. Graphic Design, Education, Education Technology, Computer Science, or other degree where relevant digital skills were developed), and will ideally have Advance HE Associate Fellowship (AFHEA). The successful candidate will be an experienced learning technologist and expert in the design and development of online resources and activities across multiple media and will have been significantly involved in online course development. They will also be experienced in designing and delivering staff development workshops, and supporting academic staff in online, blended and digitally supported learning, teaching and assessment. They will have an understanding of inclusive higher education pedagogies, particularly in reference to online learning, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Directorate/Function

The Academic Services Directorate includes Research & Impact, Knowledge Exchange, Academic Registry, Quality Assurance and Enhancement, the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre and Brand, Communications and Public Affairs. Collectively the Directorate supports academics in their research and KE activities and supports some of the University’s governance and decision-making committees, maintains academic regulations, develops and implements academic policies, oversees the quality and standards of academic provision and leads the development of education practices across the University.

The Directorate is responsible for stimulating cutting edge research, impact and knowledge exchange and supporting a vibrant community of graduate research students, to increase the volume, impact and visibility of our research and business activities. We actively liaise with Faculties and researchers to support and develop research activities across all disciplines and provide related training and development opportunities. We foster interdisciplinary working to promote, advance and share knowledge with the overall aim of securing new revenue sources and contributing to regional prosperity. Our goal is to foster and sustain a vibrant research culture in which our researchers and research students can flourish.

This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months with a starting salary of £38,863 per annum.
