Are you passionate about health and safety and keen to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic, creative and diverse academic environment?

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety professional to provide specialist advice, guidance and support across the Faculty. Working with academic, technical and professional services colleagues, you will help ensure that health and safety is embedded in everyday practice, supporting a wide range of activities including teaching, research, specialist workshops, creative practice, exhibitions, events and fieldwork.

You will play a key role in supporting Faculty leadership and staff to meet their statutory and University health and safety responsibilities, providing practical, proportionate solutions to manage risk while enabling creativity, innovation and academic excellence. Acting as the Faculty’s principal source of health and safety expertise, you will work closely with the University’s central health and safety team to implement policies, strengthen local arrangements and promote a positive, proactive safety culture.

This is an opportunity to combine professional expertise with collaborative working, helping create a safe and supportive environment in which staff and students can thrive.

The Person

We are looking for a proactive and collaborative health and safety professional with a recognised Level 3 qualification, such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent, and a sound working knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessment and incident investigation.

You will have the ability to interpret legislation and policy and translate requirements into clear, practical guidance for colleagues across a diverse range of activities. You will be confident working with academic, technical and professional services teams, supporting effective risk management, monitoring compliance and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

You will bring strong communication, organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate incidents, prepare reports, deliver training and build positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, exercising professional judgement and escalating significant risks where necessary.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can take a proportionate, solutions-focused approach to health and safety, helping to maintain a safe working and learning environment while enabling creative practice, innovation and academic excellence.

The Faculty

Kingston School of Art (KSA) is a vibrant and diverse creative community within Kingston University, bringing together art, design, architecture, fashion, communication, media and performing arts. Our specialist workshops, studios, laboratories and creative spaces support a wide range of practical and experimental activities, making effective health and safety management essential to our work. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive and enabling environment in which students and staff can explore ideas, develop new skills and push creative boundaries.

Joining KSA offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the Faculty’s success by supporting safe, sustainable and innovative teaching, research and creative practice, while helping ensure that health and safety enables rather than constrains academic excellence.
