This is an exciting opportunity to join the vibrant and highly respected Department of Illustration Animation — a creative home to BA Illustration Animation, BA Interaction Design, MA Illustration, MA Animation, and a thriving postgraduate research community. You’ll be part of a dynamic and ambitious team of students and staff, contributing to a culture of learning, teaching, and critical making at the forefront of the discipline.

We are looking for a lecturer to teach across our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a focus on graphic narrative, sequential image-making, and time-based storytelling. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate, organise, and manage projects, delivering teaching through workshops, tutorials, seminars, reviews, and assessments.

We seek candidates with a creative research-led practice in visual storytelling — spanning areas such as comics, graphic novels, visual essays, performative image-making, or experimental narrative work. This role is ideal for an illustrator or image-based practitioner whose work interrogates how stories unfold through images, both on and off the page, and across a range of platforms. We welcome applicants who bring a reflective, critical, and inclusive approach to both their creative practice and pedagogy.

The successful candidate will also take on pastoral responsibilities, supporting students from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. A commitment to equitable, student-centred learning and an interest in curriculum development are essential. You will play an active role in shaping how narrative, sequential, and time-based image-making evolve within the subject area.

The Person

We’re looking for an innovative and engaged individual with a commitment to learning and teaching in Illustration Animation. You will hold an undergraduate degree in Illustration, Animation, or a related subject; a Higher Degree or Research Degree is desirable.

You will bring a strong understanding of graphic narrative and sequential image-making, including time-based and moving presentations of images. An experimental, forward-thinking approach to creative practice is essential.

We are seeking someone with an established or emerging profile in research, knowledge exchange, or higher education pedagogy. You should have proven experience in delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, feedback, and academic support to a diverse student body in higher education.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with the ability to contribute meaningfully to interdisciplinary teams and a wider academic community.
